Bakgarður 101 returned to Reykjavík this year, bringing together runners, volunteers, supporters, and spectators for an unforgettable weekend of endurance running.
Unlike traditional races with a fixed finish line, Bakgarður 101 follows the popular backyard ultra format. Participants complete a loop within a set time limit and return to the starting area before beginning the next lap. The process repeats hour after hour until only one runner remains.
The format creates a unique atmosphere where endurance, strategy, and mental strength become just as important as speed. It also fosters a strong sense of community, with runners encouraging one another throughout the event.
Hertz Iceland at the Event
The Hertz Iceland team was proud to be present throughout the event, supporting participants and spectators as they took on the challenge.
At our station, we offered complimentary coffee and traditional Icelandic kleinur to runners, supporters, volunteers, and visitors throughout the weekend. As temperatures cooled and the hours passed, it was wonderful to see so many people stopping by for a warm drink, a quick snack, and a friendly chat.
One of the highlights of the event was experiencing the incredible atmosphere created by the running community. From first-time participants to experienced ultra runners, everyone shared the same determination and enthusiasm that make events like Bakgarður 101 so special.
