Every rental includes mandatory Third-Party Liability and Collision Damage Waiver by law; three optional protection packages — Basic, Medium, and MAX — add coverage for gravel, sand/ash, tires, windscreens and more.
Breaking it Down
TPL(Third-Party Liability) and CDW(Collision Damage Waiver) are built into every rate at no extra cost but leave you liable for an excess and don’t cover gravel, windshield, tire or undercarriage damage. Basic Cover = CDW+TPL only (excess 242,000 ISK passenger / 399,000 ISK 4×4). Medium adds SCDW, theft, windscreen, gravel protection (excess 30,000/65,000 ISK). MAX Cover bundles everything plus sand/ash and tires & wheels for zero excess (4,950 ISK/day passenger, 5,950 ISK/day 4×4/luxury). Underbody damage, river-crossing/water damage, and off-road/traffic-violation damage are never covered by any package. (Always “”coverage/protection,”” never “”insurance”” in customer-facing copy — legal requirement.)
