A credit card is the default requirement, but a debit card is accepted only if it’s a 16-digit card starting with 4 or 5 — prepaid cards, mobile wallets and virtual cards are never accepted.
Breaking it Down
A physical card in the main driver’s name is mandatory regardless of how you booked. Accepted: Visa/Mastercard/Amex credit cards, HCC cards (via Hertz.com), qualifying debit cards, and prepaid cards if in the driver’s name with sufficient funds. Not accepted under any circumstance: Apple/Google Pay, e-wallets, virtual/digital-only cards, Apple Card (physical or digital), or any card not matching the license name.
